Howard Lutnick

Howard Lutnick is an American businessman and United States secretary of commerce whose career joins finance, public service and rebuilding after catastrophe.

Influence and contribution

Lutnick became chief executive of Cantor Fitzgerald in 1991. After the firm lost 658 employees in the September 11 attacks, he led its recovery and established a relief fund for victims' families. As United States secretary of commerce since 2025, he has become a leading voice in the administration's policies on tariffs, trade, export controls, semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
