Eyal Zamir: work, influence and a contemporary legacy
Eyal Zamir is an Israeli general who became chief of the IDF General Staff after decades in armored and senior command roles.
Influence and contribution
Zamir commanded an armored brigade and division, led the Southern Command, served as military secretary to the prime minister and deputy chief of staff, and later directed the Defense Ministry. As chief of staff he inherited the task of rebuilding readiness, trust and force structure after a prolonged war.
Legacy and significance
Zamir's biography belongs in Moreshet because it illuminates the professional institutions behind Israel's security decisions. His progression from tank officer to the army's highest command also documents continuity and change inside the IDF.
