Avigdor Liberman: work, influence and a contemporary legacy
Avigdor Liberman is an Israeli politician, former cabinet minister and founder of the Yisrael Beiteinu party.
Influence and contribution
An immigrant from Soviet Moldova, Liberman built a political home for many Russian-speaking Israelis and held the foreign affairs, defense and finance portfolios. He combines secularist domestic positions with a hawkish security outlook and has often used coalition leverage to alter national political alignments.
Legacy and significance
His place in Moreshet reflects the political integration of the great post-Soviet aliyah and the emergence of a distinct secular-national constituency. His career is a durable part of Israel's coalition history.
