Ephraim Mirvis: work, influence and a contemporary legacy

Ephraim Mirvis is an Orthodox rabbi who serves as chief rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth.

Influence and contribution

Born in South Africa, Mirvis served communities in Ireland and Britain before becoming chief rabbi in 2013. He has emphasized education, social responsibility, interfaith relations and the safety and confidence of Jewish communities confronting antisemitism.

Legacy and significance

Mirvis belongs in Moreshet as a contemporary link in the long history of British Jewry. His office joins religious guidance with a public voice on national ethics and minority life.
